Saudade has been described as a “vague and constant desire for something that does not and probably cannot exist”.
I once had a friend who told me differently, but when I discovered he was not really a friend, I found I forgot the definition and the above took its place.
I could be Portuguese. At least then, I’d have cultural directive to find this a state of constancy.
‘Sinto saudades de você’ means ‘I miss you’. I find the context bittersweet.
