The illusion of validity and the dangers of confidence

A fascinating read from Daniel Kahneman via the New York Times; the article speaks to a concept called the “illusion of validity” and also to the curious manner in which confidence will belie and ignore entirely any information that might (should!) affect it.

The author, Daniel Kahneman, is an Israeli-American psychologist and Nobel laureate who specializes in the psychology of judgment and decision-making. I find his take on the topic to be salient, insightful, and very worthy of consideration.
